Gravy Studio & Gallery is proud to present Paper Studies, Debra Bilow’s first solo exhibition
in Philadelphia. Paper Studies, focuses on Debra’s interest in still life compositions. This series of still lifes are nuanced color or black and white images that play with perception and express her minimalist leanings and are grounded in formality and restraint. The images are of white folded paper, placed within a white setting and photographed in natural light. The limited color palette causes the forms to fade into the background. The planes flatten and merge and the delicate objects are barely there. Each image is printed on a small scale to enhance their understated, quiet nature. The size promotes an intimate, individual viewing of the photograph.
